Elliot Giles breaks Seb Coe’s 800m GB record

In Torun, Poland at one of the World Tour events Elliot Giles of Birchfield Harriers broke Seb Coe’s long standing 800m British indoor record. With a time of 1.43.63 not only was this a British record but it is also the second fastest 800m of all time indoors.

This performance came on the back of two other World Tour wins at 800m and a new 1500 personal best and capped an excellent three weeks for Elliot. He is now back in training as he focusses on the outdoor season and his Olympic campaign.

County Track and Field Champs – delayed

The government recently updated its Covid guidelines and England Athletics has also updated its guidance however the dates quoted at every stage are the earliest possible. They will certainly not be brought forward and might be delayed. It is unlikely that we will be able to hold out Track and Field Championships on the planned date of 8th/9th May 2021.

Even if everything goes unexpectedly better than expected we do not want to stage a County Track and Field Championships very early in the season after an enforced break of over a year. We feel it would not be fair on the athletes who have not had the opportunity to prepare fully for the championships and we would not wish to award medals in such a situation.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and we are quite optimistic about a Championship later in the season so please be patient and watch the County web site and social media for updates.
